Agreement to Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Peelback ("the app"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the app.

Peelback is developed and operated by Ember Labs.

Description of Service

Peelback is an ingredient analysis app that:

  • Scans product labels using your device's camera
  • Reads ingredient lists using on-device text recognition
  • Analyzes ingredients using AI to provide safety assessments
  • Personalizes results based on your allergens, dietary preferences, and medications
  • Allows manual product searches by name

AI-Generated Content

How AI Is Used

Peelback uses artificial intelligence (Anthropic's Claude) to analyze ingredient lists and provide safety assessments. All ratings, explanations, and recommendations you see in the app are generated by AI.

Limitations of AI

  • AI can make mistakes and may misinterpret ingredients
  • AI knowledge has a training cutoff date and may not reflect recent research
  • AI cannot detect manufacturing changes, cross-contamination, or unlisted ingredients
  • Results may vary between scans of the same product

Your Responsibility

AI-generated content is provided as a starting point for your own research. You should verify important information independently and consult healthcare professionals for medical decisions.

Peelback is for informational purposes only. The app does not provide medical, nutritional, or health advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider for medical decisions, especially regarding allergies, food sensitivities, or medication interactions.

Accuracy Limitations

  • Ingredient analysis is generated by AI and may contain errors
  • Product formulations change; our information may not reflect the latest version
  • Text recognition may misread labels, especially if damaged, blurry, or in unusual fonts
  • "Brand recall" results (when scanning packaging without visible ingredients) are based on AI training data and may not reflect current formulations

Not a Substitute for Label Reading

Always read actual product labels, especially if you have severe allergies. Do not rely solely on Peelback for allergy or safety decisions.

No Guarantee of Safety

A "Safe" rating does not guarantee a product is safe for you. It indicates the AI found no obvious concerns based on the information provided. Cross-contamination, manufacturing changes, and other factors are not detectable by scanning ingredients.

Subscriptions & Payments

Free Tier

Free users receive 5 scans per day. Scan counts reset daily at midnight in your local time zone.

Peelback Pro

Pro access is available through the following options:

  • Monthly: $4.99/month
  • Yearly: $29.99/year (includes a 7-day free trial)
  • Lifetime: $59.99 one-time purchase

Pro features include:

  • Unlimited scans
  • Multiple family profiles
  • Medication interaction alerts
  • Manual product search
  • Shareable scan cards

Free Trial

The yearly subscription includes a 7-day free trial. You will not be charged until the trial period ends. If you cancel during the free trial, you will not be charged.

Billing

  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase
  • Subscriptions (monthly and yearly) automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
  • The Lifetime option is a one-time purchase that grants permanent access to Pro features with no recurring charges
  • You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID account settings

Refunds

Refunds are handled by Apple according to their refund policies.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the app for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the app
  • Use automated systems to make excessive API requests
  • Resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit the app or its data
  • Circumvent daily scan limits or other usage restrictions

Intellectual Property

Peelback, including its design, features, and content, is owned by Ember Labs. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive license to use the app for personal, non-commercial purposes.

The Peelback name, logo, and branding are trademarks of Ember Labs.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • Peelback is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind
  • Ember Labs is not liable for any damages arising from your use of the app
  • Ember Labs is not responsible for decisions made based on app information
  • Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the app in the past 12 months

Some jurisdictions do not allow limitations on implied warranties or liability, so these limitations may not apply to you.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Ember Labs from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the app or violation of these terms.

Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms. We will notify users of significant changes through the app or App Store release notes.

Termination

We reserve the right to terminate or suspend your access to the app at any time, for any reason, without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the app ceases immediately.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes shall be resolved in accordance with applicable law.
