Overview

Peelback ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

Data We Collect

Camera Images

When you scan a product, the app captures an image of the ingredient list. This image is:

• Processed on-device using Apple's Vision framework for text recognition
• Sent to our secure server for AI analysis
• Never stored on our servers after analysis is complete
• Optionally stored locally on your device in your scan history

Profile Information

Your allergens, dietary preferences, and medications are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data never leaves your device and is never sent to our servers.

Scan History

Your scan results are stored locally on your device. You can delete individual scans or all scan history at any time.

Subscription Status

We receive confirmation of your subscription status from Apple. We do not have access to your Apple ID, payment method, or billing information.

Device Identifier

We use Apple's vendor identifier to enforce daily scan limits for free users. This identifier is reset if you uninstall and reinstall the app, and cannot be used to identify you personally.

Data We Do Not Collect

• Your name, email, or contact information (unless you contact support)
• Your location
• Your contacts or photos (beyond camera access for scanning)
• Analytics or tracking data
• Advertising identifiers

How We Use Your Data

AI Analysis

When you scan a product or search by name, we send the ingredient information to our AI service (powered by Anthropic's Claude) to analyze safety and relevance to your profile. The AI does not retain your data after generating the response.

Personalization

Your locally-stored profile (allergens, dietary preferences, medications) is used to personalize your scan results. This data is included in AI analysis requests but is not stored on our servers.

Third-Party Services

Anthropic (Claude AI)

We use Anthropic's Claude API to analyze ingredients. Anthropic processes data according to their privacy policy and does not use API inputs to train their models.

Apple

We use Apple's StoreKit for subscription management and Apple's Vision framework for on-device text recognition.

Cloudflare

Our API is hosted on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare processes requests according to their privacy policy.

Data Storage & Security

• Profile data and scan history are stored locally on your device
• All network requests use HTTPS encryption
• We do not maintain a database of user information
• Images sent for analysis are processed and immediately discarded

Your Rights

Access & Deletion

All your data is stored on your device. You can view it in the app and delete it at any time by:

• Deleting individual scans from your history
• Deleting the app (removes all local data)

Data Portability

You can share scan results as images using the Share feature.

Children's Privacy

Peelback is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. The app may be used by parents to scan products for their children's dietary needs.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the app or App Store release notes.
